P010 →  Puddles

Puddles, glazed ceramic, 12 × 10 × 3 cm/each, open edition, 2023

Puddles is a personal project for practicing 3D modeling, mold making, slip casting, and small-scale production. It explores various forms of downward excavation, much like a calm, undisturbed puddle—you never know what lies beneath the surface.

I spent several months immersed in this project—my first attempt at creating a small batch of products. I initially thought that with the help of friends and experienced artisans, the process would be much more efficient. However, the various issues and setbacks I encountered along the way often made me feel like life was incredibly challenging... After loosening my standards and making several compromises, the success rate of my pieces was only about 60%. Throughout the process, I kept encouraging myself, reminding myself that working with ceramics is a constant journey of learning from mistakes—including learning to let go.

I am especially grateful for the inspiration and selfless sharing from artist Yen Yu Ting, the 3D modeling by master  Li Yi Fan, the assistance from the craftsmen at Yingge, and the support from Joan and David.
